{"id":388,"date":"2007-10-18T01:59:06","date_gmt":"2007-10-18T01:59:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/new.israelgreenwald.com\/?p=388"},"modified":"2015-03-13T01:59:24","modified_gmt":"2015-03-13T01:59:24","slug":"mob-cop-lawyers-back-in-court-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/israelgreenwald.com\/?p=388","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;MOB COP&#8217; LAWYERS BACK IN COURT TODAY"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By STEFANIE COHEN<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/new.israelgreenwald.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/newyorkpost_oe3-1.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-296\" src=\"http:\/\/new.israelgreenwald.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/newyorkpost_oe3-1.gif\" alt=\"newyorkpost_oe3-1\" width=\"355\" height=\"66\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nOctober 18, 2007 &#8212; Lawyers for &#8220;Mafia cops&#8221; Louis Eppolito and Stephen Caracappa will each get 10 minutes today to prove a judge was right to toss convictions against the pair, who allegedly kidnapped and killed at the behest of a psychotic mob boss.<br \/>\nBrooklyn federal court Judge Jack Weinstein overthrew guilty verdicts against the ex-NYPD detectives in June 2006 after a jury convicted them of facilitating at least eight murders on behalf of Luchese underboss Anthony &#8220;Gaspipe&#8221; Casso.<\/p>\n<p>Weinstein ruled that the five-year federal statute of limitations had run out on the murders, which occurred between 1986 and 1990.<\/p>\n<p>The highly decorated detectives dragged their badges through the mud for Casso &#8211; kidnapping and delivering victims to him &#8211; and even, in one case, carrying out a hit, in exchange for wads of cash, a jury found.<\/p>\n<p>Neither Eppolito nor Caracappa will appear at today&#8217;s hearing at the Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
